hey sara! just cruisin' the internet and I'm glad to see your review of Ann Lamott's book - i wasn't going to even try it, because i too have not been as enamored with her fiction as her nonfiction BUT now i'll give it a shot. although the part about the daughter frankly scares the crap out of me. you should HEAR the conversations we have these days -- all about love and piercings and kissing and friendships and just where ARE filters in cigarettes, anyway? OYE!

He worked for years trying to get this story out in a coherent way. He selected Norton to publish in part because they do not publish children's books and he was concerned that people understand the intended audience. It takes its place among the great harrowing "lives of the authors" stories, though I still think Paula Fox keeps the prize for enduring the worst.

Unreal. These children are like blooming flowers, growing and changing at WARPED speed. I love them. And you. And your blog. And I know that Ben and Lucy will take the goodness of Oakdale with them wherever they go next--kids are good at that. God is good like that too.

Wow, Sara. I love this. Please keep writing—I remember your kids at such young ages, and this is the kind of thing that keeps reminding me how fast it goes.

Since I have"crossed the bridge" into to the more mature section of life, my eyes are NOT what they used to be. Until I enlarged this photo, I swear, I thought it was a very old picture of you and Karl! I can't believe how much they look like you guys! I understand how you feel! It's so hard to say good-bye to something that had such an important influence on all of your lives! Summertime is very bitter sweet this year I am sure! Prayers and comfort your way dear sister-in-law!

The seriousness of your reflection is beautiful, so there is no need to apologize. Lovely writing about the joy and sadness inherent in every moment makes us remember how precious every moment is, and how much of a GIFT is in every day we receive from God. Thanks for this Sara. Just beautiful!
